Interview tips
Resumes help to get you noticed by demonstrating that you have the skills,
experience and qualifications required for the job you're applying for.
Interviews allow you to really show Vancity who you are – why you want
this job and why you're a good fit for Vancity. Interviews are also your
chance to find out a bit more about Vancity and the position you're applying
for, and if we're the right fit for you.
Consider the following tips before you head into your next interview:
- Anticipate the questions you'll be asked. Write them down – and prepare the answers. What kind of information will your interviewer want to know about you that they haven't learned from your resume and cover letter?
- Learn about Vancity and the job you're applying for.
Do some research about the Vancity Group and the line of business or department
you are interested in.
- Be prepared for Behavioural questions: to you will be asked to give specific examples from your experience that illustrate how you behaved in work-related situations such as coming up with creative solutions or conflict resolution.
- Prepare questions you want to ask about the role when you go into the interview. Remember, you're interviewing us too.
- Practice, practice, practice. Rehearse your answers –
out loud if it helps – so that you'll be comfortable with how
you want to express yourself when it comes time for the interview.
During your interview:
- Listen carefully to the question and answer it completely.
If you're not clear about the question, ask for clarification or more
information.
- Give recent and relevant examples of your experience during
the interview – whether that experience was gained at work, as a volunteer,
as a parent or caregiver, or at play – what's most important is
that you answer is relevant to the question you're being asked.
Good luck!
